Intended for

Persons designated to act as Helicopter Deck Assistant (HDA) under supervision of an HLO and member of a fire-fighting and rescue team at an offshore mining installation.

Objectives

Training delegates in theory and practice of the performance of all activities concerning helicopter operations and fire control and search and rescue activities.

Course content

  • Hazards of helicopter operations, dangerous areas, entry and escape routes.
  • Preparation of the helideck and associated (fire-fighting) equipment for the landing and take-off of a helicopter.
  • The loading of the helicopter and the collection of the data for the determination of the weight of the helicopter, boarding or disembarking of persons.
  • Carrying out fuel quality checks, fuel installation operations and refuelling a helicopter.
  • The role of a fire-fighting and rescue team at a mining installation including the use of breathing apparatus.
  • Reacting to alarms e.g. proceeding to the muster station, selecting and donning the required personal protective equipment.
  • Maintaining effective communication with team members and team leader.
  • Fire-fighting on indoor, plant and helicopter fires and rescuing victims.

Prerequisite training
No specific knowledge required, a valid NOGEPA 0.5A/B is advised.
Medical requirement(s)
The course participant must be in the possession of a valid NOGEPA / OGUK / UKOOA / OLF / AWMF approved offshore medical certificate including medical certificate for the use of breathing apparatus.
